We’d like to claim that we’re the first NOBC, but that might be hard to verify.
The group started in mid-2004 in Morgan Hill, CA and met approximately once a month till the end of 2005 (roughly), when some members moved away. We discussed books over breakfast early on a Saturday morning. Some of the titles we read include: Byzantium, Ender’s Game, Speaker for the Dead, Under the Banner of Heaven, Beowulf, Heart of Darkness, The Man Who Was Thursday, The History of Rasselas: Prince of Abissinia, and Pilgrim at Tinker Creek (to those whose nominations I’ve left out: in a couple of instances, I know I’m missing some authors, but I can’t remember which book in particular we read – sorry!). Good times.
We’re still geographically dispersed, but we’d like to try to continue the discussions online.
We’ll see how it goes!
